Will Work for Food: Consults for a Cause

There’s a lot I can say about the current ongoing shame and disgrace of the financial sustenance being cruelly denied to our most vulnerable. Then yesterday I read of a small upcounty bake shop offering help to its community: bagels and cream cheese to SNAP recipients in limbo.  They could also get a free pie for Thanksgiving dinner. And I wept.

Like one of the recent weekly motivations from  The Sign Church,  it was a stark reminder that words can only do so much, so I’m announcing The Refreshed Home’s re-launch of Consults for a Cause.

Each month, 4 clients will have the option to redirect their consult fees to that month’s designated bank or soup kitchen.

  • After the consult, instead of writing a check to TRH, clients give me a check made out to that organization
  • Design, pre-listing, and color consults all count, as do Gift Certificate purchases
  • Beyond the obvious benefits to recipients, clients still get award-winning design and listing prep advocacy, but pay no sales tax, and have their cancelled check as a receipt for tax purposes.

November’s Consults for a Cause organization is Feeding Westchester. Their warehouse is located in Elmsford’s Executive Park. They are the hub that helps support more than 200 Westchester pantries and agencies.

You can also help Feeding Westchester directly: Donate, volunteer, run a food drive, see if your company has matching funds, drop off food donations at their drive-by bin, or hey, even run a fundraiser of your own!

If you’ve been angsting over wall colors….want to walk through some upcoming reno or downsizing plans, now is the time!  We can’t do everything. But we can all do something.
