The Phenomenon of Reset aka The All-Star Break
Regular readers know I am a big baseball fan. Over the years I’ve used it in analogies like Stagers are Starters and a favorite Yogi-ism to better explain what I do. Yes, I have my favorite team, but I love the sport itself, it’s a constant, my wallpaper for almost 2/3 of the year.
And every year, during this awful, terrible, semi-interminable 4-day cessation of regular games in what’s known as the All-Star Break, lots of talk about the phenomenon of reset. It’s a halfway marker in the season, and the commentary recaps the first half of the season, then what’s possible and planned for the 2nd half.
Would agree that the power of reset is phenomenal, but not exactly a phenomenon.
Reset is a powerful, purposeful event. You step back and take a breath. You give yourself time; you gain clarity, perspective, and focus. With your equilibrium restored, you’re energized. You can refine, and move confidently forward. For many it’s physical and mental rest; for others, just a a different routine or a change of scenery can work wonders.
Major sports with longer seasons like baseball, basketball, and ice hockey have an All-Star Break. We as regular citizens experience the rejuvenating benefits of vacations and long weekends. Toddlers get time-outs. In court, they call a recess; in the theater, it’s intermission. Fine dining experience often includes sorbet between courses to cleanse the palate and aid digestion.
The point here?
Sending some love out to all those who are wearied or discouraged by the real estate market, and some reassurance to those homeowners that no matter how many hours of HGTV they watch still can’t figure out how to re-work their own space.
We all need to step back, sometimes, to make, and take our own All-Star break.
I’ve been in the people-spaces-and-pretty-things business my entire adult life. There are two things I can say for certain: First, the mind is the hardest space to work on. Second: you know. Truly, in your cells, you know the right things to do. You might not hear it, or trust yourself because of all the other noise in your world.
My counsel to prospective clients is that they will always choose well when they’re pointed in the right direction. I’ve yet to have a client tell me afterward it didn’t work that way.
So if you’re trying to figure out some big things but feel stuck- take a break. And if it’s about the complicated relationship you have with your space and your things-we can talk you through it. The Refreshed Home and Orange Boom bring an independent and thoughtful approach to the creative process. Just start the conversation!
