DEEP BLUES are the New Gray!

Yes, it’s true! For all the reasons we’ve loved the polished gray palette…and ALSO for all the reasons it’s feeling a bit sleepy now,  Deep blues are the New Gray! One of 4 colors chosen for 2019 at  Milan Design Week  earlier this year, deep blues can be incorporated almost seamlessly into any room.

Clean and elegant, grays are timeless and comforting, great for decorating or staging. Also, pretty much everything looked good with gray. But just like everything else we get used to, the ‘a-h-h-h’s turn to ‘a-w-w-w’s, and we crave change.

Deep Blues are a big refresh, and an easy transition…but they need to be blues of substance, blues with character. Trust your Westchester County design advocate! No watery green-blues, no wheeee! tropical blues. Powder, pastel, electric or gray blues won’t do it either.  Here are some favorites to get you going!

It’s the deep, rich, nuanced, unambiguous, saturated blues that are the new gray. Strong, solid and reassuring blues. Blues with a certainty, blues with a commanding presence .  Deep blues that calm and invigorate, that are both fresh and storied.

Used to create strong contrast with whatever else is in the room, it goes with just about any other color: against white trim, be bold on the walls….or bold AND unexpected on the ceiling!

With neutral walls or carpet, consider it for a sofa, sprinkle it throughout the room via art or lamps. Mix it with lime, orange or deep teal pillows to anchor that mid-century modern LR.
